Overview
Mental Health is defined by the World Health Organisation as “a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.”
Mental wellbeing is important to consider for both staff and students. It can have a marked impact on motivation, productivity and someone’s ability to engage effectively in their work or study. If you are mentally well, you are more likely to achieve and perform at your best, and if you are not, it can have detrimental consequences, and therefore seeking support and help as early as possible is encouraged.
Use this resource to enable your course team to consider the impact on mental health and wellbeing of both staff and students when designing and delivering courses.
